Coulonges comes from the Latin "coloniae" which means a territory inhabited by Roman settlers. Indeed, the Romans used hydraulic power to turn their millstones. This is why they settled in this area, supplied by the river Iton, and built watermills. Later, at the time of medieval lords, Coulonges became part of the big Domaine d'Hellenvilliers, thus allowing the construction of churches and castles.
A charming walk by the water and in the hamlets of Sacq and Sylvains-les-Moulins, which will show you the charm of their beautiful country houses and their unspoilt landscapes.
