Welcome to a typical Norman village! Le Bec-Hellouin is a gem of a village nestled in a green setting.
It is not very big but it is tremendously charming... Nestled in the Bec valley, the main street is brightened with beautiful flowers that highlight the colourful half-timbered houses. It is the perfect backdrop for a postcard picture made in Normandy! As soon as you lay eyes on the village, you will understand why it is listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France". There are flowers of various colours and a pleasant sense of tranquillity.
There stands the majestic Abbey Notre-Dame-du-Bec founded in the 10th century by Herluin. Take time to visit it! After a series of events and damages, monastic life was restored in the Abbey Notre-Dame-du-Bec in 1948. The visit of the abbey provides an intense feeling of serenity. You will be able to stroll under the tall trees surrounding the ruins of the former Abbey Church and go shopping at the gift shop where the monks sell their handmade ceramics.
As the village is small it is pleasant to walk or cycle along the paths and Greenway. Stop for a picnic, admire the landscape and drink in the stunning view of the abbey. Go and meet local producers, at the organic farm for instance, to discover and try fresh and tasty local products… In Le Bec-Hellouin, life unfolds peacefully.
We particularly like: Taking photos the colourful houses.
